Trail work and leadership experience required. Pay: $82 - $90 per day. Backcountry Trail Crew Member (June 8 Sept 24) Crew Members work as part of a backcountry trail crew working on trail construction and restoration. The crew will spend half of its season on Mt Yale, and half on Windom Peak. Must be comfortable with backcountry living; trail work experience beneficial but not required. Working in partnership with the Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC), the team will use traditional trail skills, restoration techniques, and hard labor, to complete an array of projects aimed at protecting and enhancing conservation lands. Members of the New Hampshire Conservation Corps (NHCC) work in crews of 6, and the Roving Crew Supervisors will provide guidance, technical and logistical support on 10-day front and backcountry hitches. Working in partnership with several agencies, including New Hampshire State Parks, The Society for the Protection of NH Forests, The White Mountain National Forest, and the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps), SCA NHCC teams will use traditional trail skills, restoration techniques, carpentry skills, and hard labor to complete an array of projects aimed at protecting and enhancing the lands and cultural resources of the state. LWCF, Trails Program Coordinator - SF State Parks Job ID: 13199 Salary: Pay Band: 60 Agency Mission & Description: ENERGY, MINERALS, AND NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT State Parks Mission: The State Park Division will protect and enhance natural resources, provide recreational facilities and opportunities, and promote public safety and education to benefit and enrich the lives of visitors. Department Goals: Purpose of Position : The primary purpose of this position is to assist with coordination & administration of the federal Recreation Trails Grants Program, and to implement State Trails System Act, coordination, planning, construction, and maintenance of trails within State Parks and on other state, federal and private lands where appropriate and to provide assistance with consistent oversight, development, implementation & distribution of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) to maintain eligibility for federal funds. Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico and is nestled in the foothills, at the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 7,000 feet. The city occupies 33.4 square miles in a valley above the Rio Grande amongst mountains that reach to over 12,000 feet. Thousands of acres of National Forest and wilderness surround the city, and yet it is only an hour's drive to the Albuquerque International Airport. Known as the "City Different," Santa Fe supports both historic culture and modern technology, while offering an outstanding quality of life for both young and old. It is the oldest state capital in the country, founded in 1610, and at one time all lands west of the Mississippi were governed from the Palace of the Governors on the Santa Fe Plaza. Educational requirements A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Natural Resources, Planning or Recreation. Experience 2 years experience in grant and contract management, with administrative, planning and public relations skills and public speaking and/or 2 years experience in planning or implementing trails projects. Trail Team Leaders 2008 Bringing Dreams to Reality Maine Conservation Corps is dedicated to conservation projects, volunteers, education, and leadership skills. MCC engages teams in challenging, high quality trail projects. Projects range from community projects to remote sites on the Appalachian Trail where teams learn traditional stone working skills while rebuilding portions of America s premier long distance hiking trail though the Wilderness of Maine. Typical duties: Lead and teach trail construction and other projects - Provide leadership and training to corps members and volunteers (members are young adults) - Complete reports - Coordinate food, equipment, and transportation for a team of 6 people - Camp in tents along with team members during service sessions - Drive teams to project sites in vans and trucks. Training: Trail skills - Rigging, stone and timber construction - Wilderness First Aid - Crew Management - Instruction and experience with Leadership - Chainsaw Certification. Dates: May 5 to August 15, 2008 or May 5 to November 15, 2008 Requirements: One season (3 months is OK) of trail work experience with one season in an outdoor leadership role - Ability to teach trail skills - Previous experience with construction work - Must be in good health and physically fit with a clean driving record - Job requires a sense of humor and the ability to maintain a safe and enjoyable work environment - Must be at least 20 years old, and a US Citizen - Must be able to motivate and work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Project Leaders The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of conservation volunteers, is seeking experienced, quality-oriented outdoor leaders to direct highly skilled and motivated young people. As a Project Leader you will work five months or longer addressing urgent conservation issues while teaching and cultivating our future environmental leaders. You will successfully complete the goals and objectives of your project while integrating SCA s core values of Service Learning, Leadership Development, Environmental Stewardship, and Education and Outreach into your project. We are looking for leaders throughout the year to lead groups of 2-6 interns in our nation s forests, parks, preserves, tribal lands, and other spectacular locations in the U.S. Build community within your team and your local area while making a positive difference in the world! SCA seeks applicants with specific skill sets that correspond to one or more of the following program areas: botany and invasive species, education, monitoring and field research, resource or fire management, restoration and trails. Minimum required qualifications: minimum of two years of previous outdoor leadership experience, ability to take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team, budget management, mentoring, and administrative skills. Most positions are seasonal; compensation is pro-rated, based on an annual salary level of $28,000.
